About Carnet

Carnet gives every car a home: a Journal of what was done to it, and when, in its Author’s own words and photos. The work on a car usually ends up scattered across forum threads, social posts and a camera roll. Here it stays in one place, in order, for as long as you keep writing.

The Car is the unit

Each Member has one Garage, and each Car in it has its own Journal. Every Entry belongs to one Car for good, so a Car’s history reads front to back like a build thread. A car you no longer own can stay in your Garage as a Past Car, and its Journal always stays with the person who wrote it.

What you can read

Cars are Public unless their Author makes them Private. Published Entries from Public Cars appear in the Feed, newest first. Features are Carnet’s own writing about car culture, by its Editors, and they lead back to Members’ Journals.

There are no comments, likes or search. Anyone can Report an Entry or a Garage to Carnet’s Moderators, who can Remove an Entry or Suspend a Member.

The name

A Carnet de Passages en Douane is a customs document that travels with a vehicle across borders and records where it has been. Carnet keeps that record for the work on your car instead.
